Dear reader,
We welcome you to our Mangrovia, which will also become yours from today.
We took inspiration from the tropical and subtropical plant with its many intertwined roots, which can live on the border between land and salt water and make the places where it is found more fertile, desalinising them and enabling different living ecosystems with its presence. The mangrove makes us breathe better because it deposits in its roots the carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere: in the same way, this editorial project stems from the desire not to resign ourselves to sad and suffocating futures, but to find liveable paths for all.
And if we want to not keep telling (and telling ourselves) the same stories, we need to allow ourselves to be surprised, to take the time to read and listen to others: others because they come from territories or people considered marginal, because they follow unusual paths or invent them, because they ignite within us the desire to do, together. The same desire that gave life to this first propagule, born by listening to the youngest person in the room and grown thanks to mutual care and the joy of those who hope in the same horizon.
In Mangrovia you will not find breaking news, but in-depth articles based on the concrete experiences of people who, through art, culture and technology, are already improving the quality of their lives, of the territories they inhabit and thus of the entire planet. Our Mangrovia is transdisciplinary both within each editorial content and as a whole. Precisely because we pay attention to relationships, the two articles you can read each week will be linked by a monthly theme, which will concern a different habitat: this month we start, of course, with the mangrove. Interwoven with the articles will be the three weekly podcasts of Zenit, the show that shares illuminating stories.
Mangrovia calls for us to get involved, change our point of view and get closer to the border, where change is generated: we are doing this, even experimenting with the use of Artificial Intelligence software in the editorial board, and we will tell you about it.
Let us know what you like and what we can improve on: this Mangrove will grow based on how many more people decide to get involved and take care of it.
We are also counting on you: have a good trip!
